Why i love collecting jefferson nickels...

Let me respond to the photographic posts quickly.

I own two Nikon D-70's, and they are the greatest cameras I have ever owned.

Have shot Nikon since 1976, and feel it is far and away the best.

I have led a double career for 30 plus years -- teaching and Sports Editor for the local newspaper. My Nikons have served my school yearbook well, and the sports action shots have won awards.

I have taken great shots of coins, but have yet to learn how to post them.

Again, D-70 -- tremendous camera!

I agree..the D-70 is a nice camera..I do like some of the original features in the D-100 a little better..the slow sync speed is a negative, but I have recently ordered the The new Nikon D 2x 12.8 MP with many many enhancements..postings pics is simple..when making a post go down to the "manage attachments" near the last section of the page and from there select "browse" select your pic, resize it to 100kb and select "upload".. Thats it.. have fun..

 

I agree with Nick66 on getting rolls from the bank, half of one roll last week had war nickels, bad shape though. Oh well

 

Picked up five rolls of nickels last Thursday.

Several War nickels.

Completed my set, and my wife's, and have some of the Grandkids busy with Jeffersons as well.

Great coin to collect, I think. Attractive, and then historically, look what TJ did for our country!

 

I picked up some nickels at the coin shop yesterday. Most were common and priced 35-65 cents. He had a full-step one, however, priced at 15$. Do full steps really sell for that much more? Also, he had a 1982 priced at several dollars. I asked about it and he said 82s are a bit more rare. Red Book doesn't mention this. Does it sound right?

I started going through bank rolls a few weeks ago to do a Jefferson set, and finding the 1938-1961 issues have been pretty slow. I picked up ten rolls yesterday, and did fine the oldest ones yet: 1939, 1940, 1941, 1941-D, and 1941-S. Still no war nickels--maybe some more discerning collectors went through them already?

After 30-40 bank rolls, I have found about 100, with about 50 left.
