I have a couple of UHR's & Lincoln comm proofs & looking to get them graded.

What is the most economical way to go about grading mostly (95% of the submissions) modern coins. I was thinking of joing ANA an then using NGC. When i have a high value coin ( 1904 PR66 morgan) looking to get upgraded I was thinking of using PCGS. Any thoughts? I am a newbie to all this

I think your idea of joining ANA an using NGC is a good idea, unless your planning on marketing/selling your coins. PCGS seems to command a premium over NGC, why, I guess because the public believes they are more accurate with their grading. Personally I think they all are in it just to separate you from your money.

You could get some valuable education in numismatics as an ANA memeber and save money slabbing with NGC, I like that idea.

Out of curiosity do you have to join ANA to join NGC?

If you join PCGS, you get 8 free submissions at the platinum level, then you are paid for a year.......

On a proof Morgan, it's PCGS all the way, IMO.

Must be getting old. I always feel like I'm repeating myself.
Regardless of who you decide to use, think of this. If you go to coin shows you will almost always hear a dealer say "But of course it cost a little more. I'ts graded by PCGS" I go to about 2 to 4 coin shows a month. Almost all dealer brag about a coin in a PCGS slab. Many will say they will not charge extra for coins in other TPGS slabs and that sometimes includes NGC.
So although I hate, hate, hate slabs, if I were to have something slabbed I would go with the one that has the biggest fist. PCGS.

No. If you join the ANA (or are a member of Ebay for that matter) you can submit coins to NGC without paying the NGC membership fee.

If you are interested in selling the coins, get them graded. I don't care for graded coins myself since I bought to keep for awhile, but I did buy some graded coins and will have an easy market venue for them when they go to auction soon.

In my experience, I prefer PCGS for the most part over NGC, and I like their new slabs better than NGC's new ones. I think PCGS is a bit more conservative, and without going into extraneous discussion regarding TPG's I have seen some interesting stuff get graded by NGC.
