I love $2 bills and I am trying to collect 1976 bills. I've been going to 6 of my local banks and all they have are the 2003 series. Why are the 1976 $2 bills so hard to find?
1976.. hard to find??/ oh lordy no they aint you go to any bank and ask for $2 notes, and you are more likely to get the 1976 then the 2003. Maybe you are just having a bad run? But 1976, in crisp condition, are still easily obtainable from banks. the only way, imho, that 1976 $2 notes are to ever be 'hard to find', is if the BEp decides to shred the billions of the notes running around the country.
When I get them at my banks, I tend to average about 50% series 1976, maybe 10% series 1995, and the rest as 2003's. Last year I did pick up three 1953's and one 1963 though.
Luck of the draw I suppose... it was actually harder for me to find 2003A $2's than the 1976's. To the degree that $2 bills circulate at all, Series 1976 still circulates a lot, and isn't too hard to find wherever $2's can be found at all. Quite often CU or close to it, for that matter. Keep looking, there's tons out there... it was a huge printing run because the Federal Reserve was really hoping to make it a practically circulating denomination, thus cutting back on the need to print $1's... never worked out that way of course.
I went to the bank 3 weeks ago and picked up 50 1976 $2 NOTES. The teller was counting them out of a stack of 150 notes, an as she was going through them I picked out 2 1953 series. I kept a few and spent the rest as they were in sad shape.
