I talked to the night manager of the local Fry's (Kroger) store, who reconciles and sets up the tills, about the availability of halves and dollar coins. She admitted she is a collector, so that answered my question. Then again, maybe she can help me fill/upgrade some non-silver holes. After all, they are my food supplier.
Found this 1919 Wheatie in the Winn Dixie Coinstar this morning! Happy New Year to me! View attachment 1227619 View attachment 1227619

Nah, probably not much juice left in them by the time they went in, and they can't put out much current even when they're new. They aren't like the rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. They can probably still cause a world of hurt if you swallow them, though.
After a long dry spell, I finally found some silver in the Coinstar — 1943 Merc. Happy 2021 everyone!
Found 60 cents in the local grocery coin star. Two quarters and a dime. The dime attracted me because I hoped it was rejected because of it being silver... And it was! It is a 1954 Roosie. The quarters are modern and I think they were rejected because they were stuck together (very slightly) so I think they went through that way.
The quarter was in the slot. The dime was vertical by the edge of the grill. The nickel and pennies were on the shelf, which required warm water.
