I found this really nice contemporary counterfeit 1689 Norway coin on eBay. I dropped a bid on it and was hoping to snipe it if someone outbid me. I'm not sure how much I would have been willing to pay for it - maybe $75 or $80. It really is a cool coin.

With less than 24 hours remaining I checked the auction and was shocked to find the bidding up to $294! GULP!! I don't think I'll be raising the bid on this one.

    Very nice counterfeit!
Hobo, it would be nice, if you ever have some spare time on your hands, if you would make an album of your counterfeit collection. I would love to see it!

A buddy and I submitted a proposal to ANA for a mini-seminar on basic counterfeit detection for this year's Summer Seminar. I am still waiting to hear if our proposal will be accepted. If we do the mini-seminar I will probably be taking photos and close-up shots of my counterfeit collection. If all this happens I'll post some of those photos here.

Wow that would be awesome. Do they already do counterfeit detection courses? I would think they would. Good luck Hobo!
I'm looking forward to seeing it sometime!

They sure do! At every Summer Seminar they have a course called Detecting Counterfeit & Altered Coins. It fills up almost immediately. It is a GREAT course if you are interested in this type of thing. You get to view the coins in the ANA Counterfeit Collection. I highly recommend taking it.

    bad

the sad reason for this coin reaching such high bids is that the bidders do not know it's a fake.
Same sellers also sell fake Norway speciedalers from Oscar I.
They should be thrown out of ebay this sellers.
Tried to contact ebay fraud protection several times, but they won't listen.

    correction

nothing bad to say about this seller since he clearly states in the add that it's a fake.
It's the chinese sellers who don't tell this that I want removed.
