Am I going crazy or is this dipped coin going 1000$ over it's value ? please guys, tell me I am missing something here.... The Coin is a 1/2 Specie Daler of Norway ....8750 silver Here is the Link : http://tiny.cc/2dzP9
I assume you're using Krause as your source? Take note that the highest listed price for this coin in Krause is XF condition ($265 in 2007). I guess the reason they don't list an uncirculated price is because they are ultra rare, so any coin with a grade above XF would go up exponentially in price. Or, an alternative explanation... there are a lot of wackos on eBay with waaaaay too much money to spend! (Been there, done that.)
I did use a trend study book but it never strays too far from the norm let alone the final price of 1600$$ insane
World coins are hard to nail down anyway. Globally, I don't think the prices are watched as closely, as say, the US coin market.
You're not missing anything, trusting Krause to be accurate is your mistake. If you want to know fairly accurate value estimates for world coinage use this instead - Coin Archives
wrong pricing I am from Norway and can tell you that these coins are extremely rare. Even though 1827 is the most common date for the series, the prices for these 1/2 species have exploded the last 3-4 years, and Krausse is not up to date on this. The coin is clearly cleaned so i think the price is to high but not horrible. I bought the 1830 from the same series for ca. 700$ some 6 years ago. Today I can easily ask 3500$ for the same coin.
