A rookie question...

    What is the difference between proof and uncirculated coins?? I thought it was the same? Please enlighten me..thank you.

    Proof is a method of manufacture. Proof coins are usually made with highly-polished dies and planchets and struck at least twice so they are very detailed and have mirror surfaces.

    Uncirculated coins are business strikes (coins made for circulation) that have not been circulated. They are made in huge quantities with (usually) no extra care and are only struck once.

    Thanks HOBO. Reason I asked because I want to buy the Lincoln Commemorative Dollar. I saw two prices and wondering which is best for me. Thank you once again. ;)

    Those two bictures are worth a heck of a lot more than 2,000 words, Leadfoot! Too bad it may be too late for ccpena5 to order a Lincoln commem directly from the mint. You can try, but I've heard some nasty rumors...
