I was at a local Farmer's Market this morning and overheard a small coin dealer offer to dip a toned 1 ounce silver bar he was selling for a customer if he wanted to buy it. The customer turned him down, so I bought the bar for $8.00 just so it wouldn't get dipped. Is that silly? Click below for a scan of the bar (not that good, it scanned darker then it really is): http://www.tonedbar.friendpages.com
I think you were on the right track. I like the look of the bar and for $8.00, I don't think you can go wrong. I would think that a lot of these were melted when silver went to $50.00, so I think it's a find.
$8.00 is a good price. It's tough to get .999 silver for much less than that unless you buy in bulk. You can resell it when silver goes back to $50
The coin dealer here in town has a crapload of 1 ozers, rounds and bars, that he said *IF* I buy this weekend I can have for 25 cents over spot. Dammit, I can only spend like $200 before monday
Well, you can still relieve him of about 25 ounces. I like the rounds better than the bars. Some of the designs are nicer. I guess he doesn't like silver, or thinks it's overpriced. I think it's probably underpriced. What else can you buy today for the same price it was in the 1970s except silver (and gold)?
I think hes not selling much at this point and is trying to liquidate a bit for now. well, if anyone here lives in New York state and wants to buy some cheap I can point him out. I dont know if that breaks forum rules or anthing, If so let me know and Ill edit this, but its a shame to let them sit and not be bought. He had probably at least a hundred just in the one case.
