What bothers me right off is that they were taken out of GSA holders and put in a National Collectors Mint display case.
Are you able post some pics of these?
I'm not an expert by any means, but I try to help as much as I'm able, when I can. :smile

I think this set was offered as just that, a 6 year complete Morgan CC Set in BU. I see even now the same mint has a 3 coin CC set of BU Morgans for sale here:

    http://www.nationalcollectorsmint.com/productupsell.jsp?path=-1%7C1697&id=2513

It's even the same color and shaped box as I have.

You asked for images, I've tried to take as many as I could with my digital camera. I'm quite certain they are all spot on ms-62 and above.

Here are the images I took:

What do you think? Was the price ($2300.) fair for a complete 1880 to 1885 CC set in BU?

    Thanks
    Jim

    Welcome to CT.
As I said in your other thread---do your research. The old saying goes...buy the book before you buy the coin.
If you aren't going to do the researhc I would only suggest that you limit yourself to buy coins under $25 each. When you get to paying hundreds and thousands of dollars, you will get burned.

Anyone care to give their opinion based upon my scans?

    Thanks

It's kind of hard to guess the grades by the pics. Dont take the pictures at angles, try to take them straight on. I know taking pics can some times be tricky, but try to get the pics to look as close as possible, to how the coin looks in hand.

It also looks like your interested in morgans. I would suggest buying David Bowers Red Book guide to Morgan Dollars, its a great book.

I took two of them carefully out of their cases, here is as straight on as I can get of the 1885 CC:

I'm not one to give advice because I'm a newbie too, but I will say those are beautiful Morgans!

Be very careful that you only touch the edges of the coins.

Thanks for pointing that out, I actually did read that, so I have been very careful to handle them by the sides in the rare instance that I handle them at all. I keep looking at them compared to a PCGS Slabbed MS63 1878 CC I bought two weeks ago, they look identical in color, grade and shine and glare. They all have slight "bag marks" as well.

Sorry maybe its just me but the pics seem flat. From those pics the coin looks very white, but I dont see any luster. It does seem to be pretty free of nicks and scratches so thats a good sign. I can say one thing that Im almost certain about, and that is the 1885 looks like it has a tilted CC, Which is the VAM-3.

I just compared it to the others and YES it does have a crooked cc!

    Thanks for noticing that.

Those pics are definitely much better. IMO I would give that coin a MS-64

No luster? It looks almost reflective.

Great! The listing said they were all at least MS63, and are all pretty close in grade, all are at least at this level.

Oh and about the VAM-3, there is another tell tale sign for the 1885-CC and that is a small line-die scratch to the left of the eye on the obverse. Mine has that as well. I really need to read more. lol

    :)
