It was originally proposed for 2010 but the 2010 slots are now full. Now I haven't seen the article but if it is recent you have the fact that the 2011 and 2012 chances don't look to promising so they simply moved it to 2013 and closest possibility. It's kind of how they are still talking about the 50th anniversary commems for the founding of NASA in 1958. And they are talking about 2014.

Actually they did have a very famous Music Festival. Problem was the Festival began in 1873 not 1886, and the festival was a biannual event and only held in odd numbered years so they didn't even have a festival in the 1936 year of the coin. And Stephen Foster DID live there, but only for three years while he was working as a bookkeeper and before he started writing his music. I love the Cincinnati half dollar. There are so many scams and fabrications involved with this coin that about the only thing honest about it is the weight and the 900 fine silver content.

That's one that I wish I had. I keep looking for one - or any counterfeit Early Commem - and can't find one.

I will also collect the silver NASA set, but I would say it's probably going to be a low-mintage set popular among only a few loyal collectors. The gold will be out of my price range as usual. I hope the designs are as neat as I expect them to be.

It is a commem I could have supported if it had actually come out in the fiftieth anniversary year, LAST YEAR. But some six years AFTER the anniversary just makes it a money grab and not a commemorative. If they could get it for 2012, the fiftieth anniversary of the first manned American flight I could go with that. Since one of the coins commemorates the astronauts who have died for the program, I could see 2016, the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo 1 disaster. Or 2019 the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. But they have missed the NASA aniversary and need to drop that. (I like the design concept and think they should keep that, just change what they are commemorating.)

I'll bet Mark Twain wouldn't buy one.
