Got these at a show today. I loved the toning on the merc and just had to get it.

1877 Seated Half for $8... good deal? I know it may look cleaned in the picture but it is not.

    Thanks

The seated half is super low grade, but for $8? You did very well, common date circ Walkers were selling for that at the Old Bridge show this morning.

I'd like to see a super close up of that Merc if you can.

Nice additions! For $8 I'd say you did great with the seated half. Wish I could find a few for that price.

Nice coins! I like that Seated Half. :thumb: About the Mercury Dime, is that mark on the reverse above Pluribus on the holder, or on the coin? It looks like it is on the coin to me, so I'll say MS-63ish, maybe a 64?

You know, that Merc might actually be a Full band merc. Can you get an even closer shot, maybe through a loop? If it is, that coin would be not only a terrific buy, but is an ideal candidate for a professional restoration (ie a dip) unless you like that toning. I don't often make such suggestions so don't take it lightly.

maybe MS66. I can't tell if that is a scratch I see on it or not.

Those pics are through a loupe. Mine just happens to have an extraordinarily large diameter.;) I would get a closeup, but something is wrong with my camera/computer/photoshop relationship so I can't crop and sharpen the image. I do think it has full bands. I also do like the toning so I wouldn't dip it.

As for your question about the scratch, I think it is a very light bag mark. How much were you thinking it would be worth if it does have FB?

This is the problem with the Merc. It is a great strike and the Obverse hair and wings are jaw dropping but see this

BTW - take a look at this photo edit

Its a 1.5 meg image that shows off your coin wonderfully. Pull it out of the 2x2 and photograph it again.

IMO this coin needs a cleaning. Doug once recommended to me a water jet, like you can be for your teeth. The gunk has to go.

In my opinion it is full bands and I don't see much of a mark or any on it now that its out of the crumy holder. I think it is MS66 unless that scratch is still there. Then it is an MS62+++
