I'd like to see if anyone has any coins that they have inherited from their family which have been passed down at least 2 generations, best if pulled or collected when they were circulating or new.. Can anyone post such a coin? Ruben
I have a few Asian coins that my grandfather got during World War 2. And a few German coins that my great-great uncle got as well. Here's two of the Asian ones, I don't have pics of the others. Korea – Yi Gong, 1 mon, 1832 AD Military Training Command mint Japan, debased gold Ni-Bu, 1868-1869 AD.
I don't have pictures of them, they are in the safe deposit box, but I have an 1867 2 cent piece that my grandfather got from his brother to go buy candy with in 1897. He was touched enough by the gift that he kept it instead and gave it to me when I was a child, he knew I would appreciate it since I am a coin collector. I also have a souvenir medal from the 1915 Panama Pacific expo that one of my Great Great Grandmothers got there. It is the same design etc. as the $50 slug, only it is brass.
Go fetch them Scott and take a picture - Why are you aways so difficult. You should have photo's for insurance purposes anyway.... JEEZ
Good idea, but for the fact that it is buried under quite a bit of other stuff that I would have to dig, yes, literally dig, out of the box. But it will happen as my collection starts to thin out so I can raise funds for my new and more rewarding interests in life.
These are the few coins from France that my Great Uncle brought back when he was in Europe during WW1. They may not be worth much but they're priceless to me.
Beautiful history. I'm surprised France could stamp out such beautiful designs while it was had the war and bleeding fields raging on its territory. Very special!
Hi Ruben, When Grandfather was in his thirties, he put aside a few gold sovereigns--the ordinary everyday circulation sovereigns of the time--for a rainy day. Well rainy days came ... ... for him in the Depression of the early 1930s, and ... for his sons in the years after WWII, ... so only one--a London-struck 1906 sovereign--came down to me. I would grade it as being about VF, so it isn't the finest sovereign in my collection--heck, it isn't even the finest 1906 in my collection--but, if I ever have to sell, it will be the last one to go. Later, John
