how to find the value of inherited coins

My brother in law died and left a coin collection. Mainly Canadian coins but some American, many in presentation sets many just individual coins.

How do I go about finding the value of these coins, is a there a book or recommended agent in my area - Toronto.

This may seem the dumbest question, but how do I categorize them? In year, or type of presentation set, do I need special containers - then what?
