I'm not familiar with the dating system used by Macedon. The reverse is rotated about 45 degrees clockwise off of coin orientation.

The horse & rider are explained by scholars as an ancient form of propaganda/bragging after Philip's horse won at the Greek Olympics (cementing his claim to Greek status). I prefer to think about the story of his son taming Bucephalus - and the fact that the horse is facing east.

Ok - wrong denomination. This is an AE17 bronze, while the Tetradrachm was a 26mm silver piece.

You are right that the coin is not a tetradrachm but AE coins of the period are still quite fun. Thanks for sharing.

No Philip AE to share but here is a small bronze of his son.

I picked this up just to act as an illustration of mounted horseriders from antiquity (for a numismatic presentation I'm building on St George slaying the dragon). If I'd known there was a variety with a spear, I'd have kept searching!

I’m not sure if it would be helpful but if you need horse and rider photographs to use in your presentation (or any other educational format for that matter) you are more than welcome to use any of my images that you want to.
