Is there a Seated Liberty $1 I can buy cheap in MS condition?

Well, I suppose it depends on what you mean by "cheap". That is a relative term. I think one would be lucky to find any Mint State Seated dollars for less than a grand nowadays, yes?

"Cheap" if you're Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos, maybe.

Dunno. Haven't looked at prices, but I know I had an ANACS AU50 common date almost twenty years ago that was worth $500-600-ish then. Mint State, even MS60, must surely be getting up there towards the thousand-dollar mark nowadays at retail, I would guess? Or close to it, anyway? Or maybe more than that?

(Going off to look at Numismedia trend prices now. It has been several years since I owned a Seated dollar.)

So anyway, low four figures might be chump change to some folks, but it is definitely out of reach on my budget! I stay down in two- and three-figure territory.

Edit, after checking Numismedia prices: I checked the most common dates for both the No Motto and With Motto subtypes.

    The 1859-O (NM) goes $1,880 in MS60.
    The 1872 (WM) goes $1,940 in MS60.
I do not consider that "cheap" by any stretch of the imagination!

So my initial guess of "almost a thousand" was actually way low. (As mentioned, I'm way behind the times on Seated dollars, and have never owned one higher than AU, personally.)

So I rest my case. No way you're gonna touch a Mint State Seated dollar nowadays, unless it has serious impairments, or you've got a very generous seller!

But a nice AU coin, on the other hand...

(@RonSanderson's pair look mighty nice for the money.)

Good luck on your search. I bought a 1863 in XF and it was $750 raw years ago,
