Interesting that "Jamhuriya" is Swahili for "republic" and "Jamhuriga" is Somali for "republic". I know a bit of Swahili from being a Somali linguist but I never knew that word :)

2018 Kenya 10 shillings. I have spent some time in that part of the world and picked up some Swahili. Seems to be a pretty easy language to learn, as compared to tonal, Asian languages. I understand that it was originally a trade lingo from the Arabs who sailed and traded up and down the east coast of Africa. 2018 KE 10 s.jpg

I have also spent more time in East Africa than I care to :)
Somali at least has a lot in common with Arabic as well as Hindi due to their trade.

I also speak an Asian language (Korean) and I have to say, Korean is way easier than Somali haha. Swahili is pretty easy though. If I had more time, I'd work on picking it up.

I see latter when they became a Democratic Republic, Congo coins showed lions, giraffes, ostrich and even camels. Personally though, you can't go wrong with putting your money on an elephant or visa versa, an elephant on your money. ;)
