Hmmm. Must I? Well, if I must, I will share one source with you. eBay!! There were several guys on eBay that I purchased from. I was always satisfied with what I received. But I did not see them around more than a year ago when I was looking to see what was available. Just search around. An eBay search for "lot of ancient coins for cleaning" may turn up something interesting; but, as I say, I have not been shopping for crusties in quite a long time, so I don't know what you will find. Please show us your before and during and after photos if you clean ancient coins. By the way, I do not clean ancient coins to resell them. I would not like to compete with legitimate, dedicated dealers and collectors who wish to sell their coins by introducing more into the marketplace. I just clean them to rescue them.
Ohh... I see you are already cleaning ancients! :-D I'll message you. Probably not today...but in some days.
Thanks. I don't sell either. Clean, ID, Record and put in album. I have bought from eBay and Dane at Helvetica.
World Coins via Littleton... Lincoln Cents & Jefferson Nickels... Indian Head Cents & Mercury Dimes... a few ancient coins... sold ALL my US moderns... bought ancient biblical coins... then some more... and then full-fledged addiction. No regrets! :-D
Getting Canadian coins from my dad,, then finding wheat cents, Bicentennial quarters, and Canadian coins in change. then going to local shows to buy coins, then buying from mail order dealer, then Ebay. I currently am working on finishing up Barber halves and quarters, IHC, Buffs, STL, and Morgans. Also now working on Seated and Bust coins and foreign silver.
Good question and a very interesting topic. My two cents...When I met my wife some 15 years ago, she told me a story about her Grandfather and Grandmother that moved here from Malta just after WWII. They had seven children. He also had a small (200+ foreign coins) collection. They moved to San Francisco and he started a collection US coins. This was passed down to my wife. The collection's she inherited was those world coins and 126 Morgan Silver dollars. I have been adding to the Morgans through out the years. Now that collection has will over 220. I CRH boxes of cents and nickles, same with quarters. Being confined because of this Covid for almost this past year, going through the collection with a 10 power glass has kept me from going nuts because of boredom.
This is my journey.. For 35+ years I mainly concentrated on Mint Errors. I feel though that I have reached the point where I'm not as interested in errors like I used to be. At the same time I have collected Foreign coins. I have way more of those than errors. I don't show them as much because there are so many. Recently I have had the passion of Metal Detecting US and Foreign Silver and other older US Coins. I have a neat Bucket List of coins that I want to find on my own. Last year I detected 94 US Silver and 2 Foreign Silver Coins. Hundreds of Wheat Cents, IHC's, Buffalo Nickels and my oldest.. A 1861 Seated Dime!.. I have 14 Detected US Silver this year to start. Paper Currency continues to grow in my collection mostly Foreign Notes, Printing Errors and Fancy Serial Numbers. This year I want to dabble a little more in Ancient Coins. (Don't get excited I really don't want to over do it in that area) Some have seen my current threads of my recent ancient purchases. I now own 12 of them. I feel like anything you want to collect should be fun and interesting. I always have!
Although I haven't collected paper currency yet I feel driven to start putting together a collection of national bank notes from states I've lived in.
All coins that I find interesting and have interesting history from beginning until now. Through the years I have concentrated most on ancients, general world, notgeld and middle ages.
