I finally got around to photographing the 4 coins gifted to me from TypeCoin971793 (Tom) . Today we finally got some sunlight, breaking a long period of overcast weather. I shoot my photos in diffused sunlight, so I'm at the mercy of the weather . Egypt - Alexandria, Diocletian, AD 284-305 (struck Year 1, AD 284/5). Potin Tetradrachm: 20.58 mm, 7.79 gm, 12 h. Reverse: Tyche reclining, holding rudder. Emmett 4083. VF with attractive brown patina. Pictured below is another example of this coin type being offered at CNG 484, lot 630. This vastly inferior example has an estimate of $100.00 ! Pictured below are the other 3 coins included with the gift, ancient Chinese cash coins. These coins are heavily encrusted with natural patina. I'm very happy with this generous gift from Tom !
The CNG Tet came from the Rocky Mountain Collection, who purchased it from Harlan J.Berk, Ltd. I'm sure most of us know who Harlan Berk is, but I have no idea who the Rocky Mountain Collection is .
That is $100 not $100k. That is crazy enough but CNG is one of those dealers that tries not to sell any coins for so little that the consignor will lose money after paying their fees. People will pay them more for a coin than they will pay us. $20-40???
Despite the typo, that's a beautiful coin you got there, Al Kowsky. It's not often you find an Egyptian tet with such clear lettering.
Those are wonderful Saturnalia gifts Al. @TypeCoin971793 is one of the best members around to receive an eastern cash coin from because he always knows all about what makes them interesting. That is a very nice Tyche tetradracm as well. Glad to see everything arrived
