This coin auction befuddles me. The seller couldn't possibly think he could actually sell it. So why did he go through the trouble and expense of listing it? Any ideas?
I can think of several reasons: He's stupid. He's crazy. He's looking for publicity. He's stupid and crazy. He's stupid, crazy and looking for publicity. If you check out his other five "auctions" by clicking here you'll be even more confused.
LOL My favorite part is at the end of the coin's "history" page where he lists his contact info and after the telephone number it says "We speak only Russian!" "Then later it says "English after 8P.M." This is too funny!
I just sent the guy this email. I think he may seriously consider my request: Dear specialtycoins2005, Hello. I noticed that the price for this coin is not a mistake. Rather than charge this amount for this coin, could you just ship the coin to me at no charge? I would also ask that you pay for the shipping and handling fees. Thank you for your consideration.
Hi TCT! You're right... "Rafik" is not Russian. Based on the information I was able to find, I would say that Mr. Aghajanyan is from Armenia... a former Soviet Republic. He would have therefore grown up speaking both Russian and Armenian. But since there aren't nearly as many Armenian speakers as Russian speakers in the world, he just went with what would attract the most number of potential clients. (Then, of course, there's the question of the "price tags" on his eBay items. I'm not sure how many people he's thinking he will attract, but it's all certainly out of my league. Maybe if I asked in Russian he would give me a 10% discount. Hey, I could save $1,000,000!!! Now that's a deal!! ) - Andrew
anyone know the actual values of these coins? are they actually rare? The prices seem insane, I would be curious to find out if they are actually rare coins, maybe not worth millions, maybe thousands? Its going to cost this guy a HUGE amount of money to even LIST these things, even if no one buys them...
wait a minute... russian... hmm... I get it! those prices must be in RUBELS! that would be about a buck fifty per coin right
There are two varitions of the 1870 Canadian 50 cent. One with the initials LCW at the bottoms of Victoria's bust and one with out. According to Charlton's Canadian Coins the No LCW at AU-55 will go for $12,000 CDN and with LCW a MS-63 will go for $15,000 CDN. So far no higher grades have been found. As for the ebay fee I believe the most they charge for an insertion fee is $5.00
I think the most valuable one he has is about $100 for the Hawaiian. Maybe he is wanting the payment in rubles? That ought to be about $100.
