I'm not new to coin collecting but I am fairly new to looking for errors or abnormalities. Been collecting off and on for probably 50+ years. Took a couple decades off when I was serving in the US Military but have recently (last couple of years) gotten back into it. I have some pics below but one thing I have particular trouble with is coin doubling. Double Dies, machine doubling, etc. I've watched a ton of videos and read some articles on the topic but I'm still confused! I've seen folks who say if it isn't already listed somewhere by some "Expert" i.e. Wexlars (Sp) or Variety vista, etc, then it either doesn't exist or it's not true "doubling". So I'm going to try to insert some pics. Maybe someone could help me to understand if I have a "doubled" coin. Also, my Avatar is a pic of a Ike dollar that looks like he is "crying". Is this an error or something else? I've had this coin for many years.

    In order
    DDD die deterioration doubling
MD Machine doubling (flat and shelf like)
Incuse die doubling, this is the way MD looks when the devices are recessed.
Can you give us a better pic of your IKE? Full size?
Looks like a possible IDB (Interior Die break)

All the pics were taken with one of those, unfortunately, cheap coin microscopes. It works fairly well but is hard to stabilize or get a full Pic. I got some new filters that fit my phone in but haven't tried them yet. I will attempt to get some better pics today. Looks like it's gonna be a rain day.

Ok. Tried to get better photos with my phone. I got one of those Zeso lens kits and this is my 1st attempt to get better pics. Not so sure they're any better with or without the lens!

Damage (PMD). The raised areas are displaced metal around the edges. Not an error

In the second pic of the original post, I see a split serif on the R -- in trying to learn about doubling, a split serif seems to be a sign of a doubled die, right? But here it is not? Can someone help me understand? (I do see the flat, shelf-like appearance...)
Thanks in advance and in hope that someone will answer....

It is the flat and shelf like that makes this MD. You pretty much answered your own question. As soon as you see the flat and shelf like it is all ways MD.
