So here is something to think about. The next time you get a roll of coins, do you count them? You too could be aquiring short rolls.

I do my banking with another bank but they do not have safe deposit boxes at my bank. The local Chase bank does have safe deposit boxes. Like you said, they require you to have an account to rent a safe deposit box from them. No problem - I deposited more than their minimum and got my small box. I put my name on a list to upgrade to a larger box and out of the blue last week I got a call that a larger box was available. I am now the proud renter of a JUMBO size safe deposit box!

Did you all know that tellers don't mind little treats occasionally, maybe a gift card or gift certificate? They really appreciate it, and it does wonders when you have favours for which you are asking, like saving the good stuff that comes in and calling me.

you know, it's interesting, but part of the argument for all the big bank mergers was that in the end, the little guy would be better served!

I guess I'm off the libertarian gas line.

Well I guess I've gotten really lucky here. Even my dump bank understands and have no problem with me bringing in 10k - 20k cents a week. I've told them what is all about and they think it is so cool. Whenever I walk in with a box they are asking "Did you find anything good?" Not that they are really concerned but it is nice for them to not be sour about it. Guess it's just the Aloha out here.

If it's my wife that is the teller, can I just make a candle lit dinner?:)

I've never understood candle lit dinners. Why is it romantic to have a meal where you can't see your partner or whatever the heck you are eating. Or is it suggesting that your partner or maybe you, look better in the dark?

Do you see how that goes? That's great. You have a knack for relationships. Bringing a "dump" bank on board with the program like that is just way cool.

Just want to say, on building that house with those boxes (should you later decide that might be a little extreme :D), give you another idea: they make great mailing boxes! Sturdy. Just cover the words, etc., w/duct tape, and stick an address label on them.

I under stand many ethnic food resteraunts use this practice to keep you from seeing what you are eating. Oh yeah, and in many cases beauty is only a lightswitch away!:goofer:

That's an awesome idea. Any coins I sell I can use the Dime boxes for shipping. Thats pretty cool.

I'm just getting into the roll-searching business and will keep you guys and gals posted. It's my opinion so far that most tellers don't mind ordering rolls (at least in my small town), but they do NOT want them back to the same bank. They think they are a nuisance, especially half dollars!

    Best Regards,

    George

Carl, I know about Banks of America. For one, a big bank like that, and they don't even have counting machines behind the counter. Just a couple suggestions. (1) If you're indeed in a "two-bank" town, why not just play them against each other. You do know, I hope, both these banks are broke, and the only reason they didn't go into bankruptcy is because of the TARP bailout money. (2) Probably better, dump your next box of rejects there and tell them you want to deposit it in your account, as opposed to just cashing it. Do you mean they're going to charge your account on the money you're depositing? Huh? Talk to the bank manager. If he or she tells you that, I'd fill out the withdrawal slip right in front of him or her, close the account, take the cash over to Chase, and tell them why you're there. And, that's just off the top of my head...I'm just getting warmed up.

I have a loaded response to that one. Their problems are far more significant than ordering coins, taking them back etc. That had absolutely nothing to do with the predicament they are in. Maybe they should have been helping collectors more, and dolling out less cash on toxic loans and going to 30:1 lending ratios instead of then previously customary 15:1.
