Just wanted to get everyone’s opinion on this 1984 P half dollar. Is it a doubled die??? Hoping I actually got this one right, lol! And I have no idea what it’s called along the left side/ obverse- I’m totally going to guess a reeding error??? But either way- looks AWESOME!!!
I think you have found one, It has the extra thick lettering and even the split seen in stage C. Check the die markers. Also that Kennedy has a collar clash.
I did find the die markers from Wexler’s page and seems to be right! Not sure if I could figure out the clash yet! Still learning!!! Thank you so much! I hope to hear more good news!!!
Super. If it is a doubled die, would a collar clash add value to the doubled die, or detract from the value of a doubled die ?
I don't see any doubling on your half. Here are some photos from the 84P DDO-001 from my collection, you might want to use to compare your half dollar with. Attached are 2 photos of the B and T in LIBERTY, note the doubling on the hair above forehead, these are from an EDS. The last two photos are of the markers that Wexler list for the 84P DDO-001. These only show on the LDS's, the N/S die scratch left of the chin, and the horizontal small short die scratch left and above the 1 of date.
Atrox is the man around here for Kennedy halfs. I have been known to be wrong before. Not very often but it does happen. Seriously, double check all the markers on given sites, to confirm your find.
Thank you! I will def have a look! Even though it’s bad news- I’ve been getting it for over two years on here! Lol! But I appreciate any info that helps me learn! Thanks again!
In my opinion it appears to be an off center strike from the left to the right of the OB. The ONLY apereant DD are the S's in STATES also doubling allover . But it's not a Great Strike unfortunately otherwise we'd be talking about price . Nice coin thought
