Was able to successfuly bid on this little coin today, and got it for a good price i think. How would you guys grade it? Thanks! Eduard http://www.sixbid.com/nav.php?p=viewlot&sid=118&lot=5634
There's a lot to like about that coin. Plenty of detail, love the arrows. Interesting history. Weakly struck denticles on right reverse ? Anyone else... comments ? Nice AU - luster breaks on arms, pole, and head. Subdued luster. Fingerprint on reverse ? Latest greysheet show $100 wholesale for AU50. Retail maybe $120ish. (XF40 $48, MS60 $160, MS63 $220 sheet). I presume this one is raw. Might grade better than 50, dunno. Post up when you get it ! I'm eager to hear about how the luster looks in hand.
The 1853 w/ arrows issue is well known for its weak strikes and is probably the most common Half Dime. I agree with 900fine with his observation of the weakly struck denticles and lack of luster, may either be the method of which the picture was taken or could have been cleaned, I'd like to see a photo once you have it in hand also. Nice coin, nice Obverse strike. I'd have to say, from the provided photo, that it would go no higher than AU53.
Thanks guys! oh...shucks, and i was thinking i had picked up a 62+ for AU money....oh well (amazing how greedy one can get!) I'll post better pics once i get it. Regards, Eduard
I'd say high XF, low AU depending on remaining luster. It appears to have some light textile toning, don't think that's any fingerprint. Another nice addition Eduard :thumb:
I agree. I tend to think fingerprint rather than textile toning. Why? Because it's on the field which a finger can touch much more easily than a bag can.
