    Hi all,

I'm a newbie to coin collecting upon inheriting my dad's coin collection. I've spent the last few weeks getting everything organized and labeled. It has been quite a task since most of the coins were in cigar boxes.

In the coins I found, there are several Morgan and Peace dollars. Of the Peace dollars, there are seven dated 1922. They are all low relief (thanks for the tip on the rays through the "one"). One of the 1922 coins looks a lot different than the others. I know it's a long shot, but could it be a satin finish coin?

I've enclosed a few pictures to get your opinion. In the pictures, I've placed it next to another 1922 coin for reference. Could it be that one coin wore differently than the others? I know the only way to be sure is to send it to be graded, but I don't want to pay the money if I don't need to. Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

It certainly looks better struck , and I guess there's a possibility that it's a Matte proof , but pretty unlikely , as I'm no expert on these wait for some that are , as it is they are quite rare arpound five to ten made .

Based on your pics I doubt you'll get any answers. Looks like an ordibary coin to me.

This could possibly be a cleaned coin.

The 1922, 1923, 1924 Peace Dollars arent worth much even the really nice ones due to so few ever getting into circulation thereby leaving lots of nice fresh ones for us to admire today and to own at very affordable prices. Nevertheless some of my 22s are my favorites as many had superior strikes (for a Peace Dollar)
Interesting how the toned Peace Dollars are nearly all a gold color? must have been far different environnment in storage compared to the Morgans
Perhaps different cloth bags, different wood floors in the storage vaults etc
Im betting it was a different cloth used in the canvas bags

Thanks for everyone's input. It's so much more of a dull, matte finish compared to the other Peace dollars I have...I felt had to get some opinions. The pictures don't show the flat coloring quite as well as I would've hoped. The black markings on the coin around the strike on the front and back make it appear almost 3D like. Maybe it was a different cloth.

An ordinary coin with great sentimental value which is the most important thing to any coin collection. Welcome to Coin Talk and enjoy your coins.
