Hi! So I'm on my second box of half dollars, I order it a few weeks ago and went to pick it up today. Opened it up and they are all 2001, machine rolled. I haven't broken the rolls up yet because it was obvious they are all the same, figured I would just go back and ask if I can trade it in for a new (old) box... I thought that the rolls were random, how did one box end up all the same year??
I'll take a shot at this! 2001 was the last year that Kennedy's were minted for general circulation. So that may be a box from 2001. Just a guess. In addition, if you do find any halves 2002 and newer and they're in UNC shape, you may want to save them as they are more specialer than the other clads.
Typically what you'll get in a box is whatever is coming in. They just keep recirculating that, over and over. It may consist of new customer coin, and it may consist of "dumps." It's only when the demand (the coin orders coming into them) exceeds their on-hand supply that they dip into their reserves. You got that, a box of their reserves. I'd keep it around awhile, if you could afford the "hit" to your "working capital." That's a fluke, though, there's no question about it. I'm assuming the ends are all BU-ish? If you can, I'd put that sucker away. Get out another $500, play with that...
SPECIALER may be a form of the word special. You know like good, gooder and goodest. Meanwhile WELCOME TO THE FOURUM. (Form of the word Forum) If I were you I'd be happy with any half dollars. Around me banks will no longer take them in, pass them out, order them. If you do bring them in, they are sent out for counting and that will cost you money. As a joke I asked what if I bring in just one. With a straight face I was told it would be sent out for counting and I would be charged for that service. Just one more of the special treatments of Bank of America.
Your kidding me, right? You can not deposit one half dollar into your account? The credit union I use will not keep or get halves, but will certainly accept them for deposit.
