I have several collections of Jefferson’s going, I have a really nice BU full step collection ( including proofs ) as well as several sets of circulated coins ( ones i have found in change )

    Yesterday i received a 1940-S in change!!!!!

It was in prety good shape, considering it is 65 years old :)

The 50d and silver war nickels are the only ones in the set that i have not been able to find in pocket change!

The BU full steps are not from pocket change ( i wish )

what other modern coin can you get an entire run on from pocket change!

    ;)

I got a 1941-s, a 1945-p, and a 1948-p out of 5 rolls i got from the bank last week. Its fun just going and getting some rolls and checking through them. I will get 5 more rolls tomorrow.

I've never gone to the bank to get rolls just to go through. I've bought rolls to add to my collection, such as the new Jeffersons. Except for Kennedy halves. Ive bought several rolls of those just for kicks. I never really thought about getting rolls from the bank just to go through though. But it seems like an easier concept than just finding the coins in pocket change ;)

Give it a try. What makes it exciting is that you never know what your going to get.

Ranchhand, I got a '45 S in change the other day and you are welcome to it. Send me your address and I'll get it on its way. It is circulated (no steps) but might be nice to add to your collection

Hey Ranchhand..I have been putting together sine the early 80's a Cameo proof Set from 1950 to 1964...the thing is that I have only steel blue and golden yellow nickles in this collection. They are very nice and perhaps I might take a pic of them for you..the 50 and 51 are slabbed and have no toning..and I think I am missing the 59..but still looking. I have seen the ones I want but the $$ for them is now exceeding 130.00 USD.

Very nice nickels. Jeffs from circulation seem to be the "Lincoln" cents of old for startup collectors these days. I know a number of people who have been working with their children on sets like that.

    Wow!
Are you saying you have a complete date/mintmark set (including all the proof issues) all with full steps?
You must be loaded. I would have to sell my house to afford something like that.

    Hey Bacchus..

The nickles are all encased within a capital plastics holder from 1950-1964
I used a Nikon D-100 with a 105mm Micro Lens for the pic, reduced the file from 2.4 M to 100kb and enlarged the nickles using the Nikon software..
I feel pretty stupid when it come to posting big pics..hahahahah

I have the same camera! how do you like it? I used to be a pro. photographer, the nikon d-100 was the first digital camera that i felt comfortable using...

What brand lenses are you using ( model number as well ) I have been looking for a good lense for close ups ( to take pictures of coins ;)

Thats a really good point, they ARE just like collecting pennys back in the day ;)

I like the fact that i can actually collect the entire series without having to make a trip to the coin store...

    Or KILL my wallet ;)

In fact i am taking a break form the coin shops for a while, going to buy $100 in rolls from the bank and spend a few weeks going through them...

I will report back my findings :)

    Hey Ranchhand..
I run a photography studio on the side called "Innovative Exposures" I do product, advertising, and food photography as well. I uas all Nikon equipment and the lens that I used was a Nikor f 2.8 105mm Micro with a 1:1 ratio for lifesize pictures. That lens is really made for the Nikon Analog cameras such as the F-5 which I have as well. The digital factor for the sensor in the camera with that lens is ~ .50 increase in focal length. That lense also servesm as a good portrait lense for head and shoulders and close up photography. The 105 mm will run ya about 450.00 at B&H Photo NY, NY www,BHPhoto.com Its little brother is the Nikor 60 mm f 2.8 1:1 as well 350.00. Their big brother is a Nikor 200mm f 2.8 1:1 at ~ 850.00.
I have 14 Nikor lenses in my bag of tricks, an F-5, D-100 and a F-80 I use White Lightining Strobes, Gitzo Carbon Fiber Tripod, Kirk quick connect camear and lense mounts..I alos do Nature photography. The best lens I have is the Nikor 300mm f 2.8..$2600.00 78 mm front Glass...WOWZER!!!

I completed my Jeffersons not too long ago.

I'm not sure exactly how many were found in circulation, but a majority were.

I have been looking for 50 plus years however, and have never found a 1950D in circulation.

    :) :)
