Yea i haven't received it yet. I'm cool with it if that's what they did though. What would bother me is one that didn't look good once it's been tampered with. Even if someone tossed this into their pocket to achieve this effect i think would/could still get details.

F-12 easy!! great looking coin. those old time engravers created art in a way that will never be done again.

Friction from fingers in circulation cause hairlines on the surface of a coin. However, they have random sizes, directions, and positions. This differs from
Cleaning hairlines which have deliberate and consistent size, direction, and positions.

The toning on the coin covers up the hairlines and makes the surface appear smooth. Removing the toning will expose these hairlines. That’s why dipped circulated coin can look hairlined but still straight grade. I suspect your coin is showing the same effect.

Ok so I got the coin today and took some pics under bright light with my cell phone. I see lines on the high points but they look random to me? Tell me what you guys think? Are my pics good enough to tell? Screenshot_20210114-115556_Gallery.jpg Screenshot_20210114-115610_Gallery.jpg

Those lines go in all directions so it looks like circulation wear to me. Either that or a terrible job at cleaning the obverse as I don't see those lines on the reverse. That's a beautiful Bust Quarter.

I suspect they’ll default to Scratched (for the marks between STATES OF, or Cleaned for the halos around the letters.

With those pics, the surfaces definitely look messed with

I agree that the hairlines on the portrait look random. If the fields look glossy/reflective under the toning ( see area above the hair ribbon) that would imply cleaned/retoned. If dull then probably OK. The reverse marks are pretty well toned over and could go either way I think if sent in for grading. Overall a very nice looking bust quarter!

Yea even with the reverse scratch i can't quit looking at it. I knew it was scratched but even that has evidently re-toned. I have been over it with all my loupes, and even if it was doctored to look this way it looks magnificent. My LCS are both in agreement that is genuine. They thought everything looked fine. I asked about the cameo look and neither thought it was suspicious. Some lower areas have high points that aren't highlighted. Unless someone wanted to really make sure they made it look legit or achieved it by sliding it around, even that was done a while ago.
