Wow...thanks everyone for the knowledge shared. Some Morgans do have a dull and un-attractive appearance "by birth"; that's why I always consult my Morgan Redbook before I buy ANY Morgan. That and I buy slabbed when the price starts getting "up there" (anything over $100). Then I take (crack) them out for my albums. I have a spreadsheet with a column where I put the TPCG/cert#. Just sayin :)

Ooh, ooh, I'll sign up for that 1895-S giveaway!

Something tells me you're going to be waiting a very, very long time to pick up a key-date Morgan for well under melt.

Edit: okay, make that "right around melt" today. I guess the recent drop in silver prices means the market will be flooded with cheap 1895-S dollars now...

    I’ll take that giveaway too!
But this is actually up for auction with current bid at $1100 incl buyers premium...

    John Skelton Morgan man!

Yes, please note that asap implies it being possible I can afford or willing to spend money to get one. Currently, I would feel it not possible to do so. Therefore it's doubtful I could ever own it at the current prices.

...disagree, not all Morgans are keepers.

Tried to sell a 1890CC G4 Vam 1 this time last year...figured maybe A YN would jump at the chance to get a CC...no one responded after several weeks of listing...

Had to sell a 1898 Philly for 20% under melt 2 months ago because it was very worn with some deep gouging both sides.

A P01 Morgan is the poster child for culls...these are for melting, not keeping...jmho...Spark

I agree, @Spark1951. In the vast majority of cases, when coin is too worn or too damaged, it becomes uncollectable in the eyes of many collectors. As a YN, I would not have considered a CC Morgan in Good-4 regardless of the date. There are simply too many Mint State pieces available to make that attractive. Even if it’s out of my price range for a Mint State piece at a couple hundred, I’d look to save up for it if I really wanted one.

being a member here on CT has truly been a blessing. ive learned so much. looking at your coin I noticed a "dull flat" look but the coin being cleaned never came to me until I read some posts from the more experienced collectors. hopefully other collectors that are looking to learn about all points of coin collecting will catch on and see that the older more experienced collectors don't play games when it comes to this art. as for your coin I would say XF and Cleaned.
