Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well! We're back under a stay-at-home order as of midnight tonight. I'm used to staying in, so, it doesn't really affect me. But, I feel terrible for the people it does affect. Will it ever end? This thread isn't to complain about what's happening in the world. This thread is to celebrate your generosity not only towards me, but, to each other as well. I've never met a more welcoming, understanding, patient and generous group of people. We know each other only through what's written here, yet, we gather as if we've known each other for years to share our favourite hobby. Everyone is welcome, it doesn't matter how little you know or how much you know. My mind is constantly blown by how fortunate I am to have found this place. I wasn't able to buy any coins this year. But, that didn't stop you from helping me build my collection. @Deacon Ray sent me his Judaean coin poster and some awesome Roman coins from John Anthony. This is the kind of collection I aim for. I have a long way to go, but, I enjoy looking through the coins every so often. Constantius Gallus has a bug eye that I'm quite fond of. @Cucumbor sent me some more sweet Roman coins. I have a few campgates now and really like them. Also, we can never go wrong with a Chi-Rho! @Alegandron won Ryro's contest earlier in the spring and chose me to be the recipient of the prizes. I'm an incredibly slow reader, so, I'm still making my way through the book, but, I like it. I got my first sestertius! Now I need more. lol But, wait! There's more! Stay tuned! Erin
@PlanoSteve won one of @lordmarcovan's contests and decided to let me pick the prize. I chose this Severus Alexander provincial from Caesarea. I like to collect coins from Biblical places, so, this fits in well. Next up, @Stevearino gifted me this Aretas IV AE16. Aretas has an interesting connection to the Bible being the father in law of John's beheader, Herod Antipas. Very cool! Then, @Orfew sent me this fun group of coins. I had a really fun time attributing them, thanks to many of you! @ominus1 played the role of Santa and gifted me the Crispus campgate for Christmas. My nephew and I opened it and he really liked the tower on the back. lol Unbelievably, there's still a surprise coming from one of you. They're still playing catchup from Christmas at the post office, so, I hope it makes it here soon. I look at these and often wonder what I've done to deserve this. I'm just a simple 37 year old from Ontario that's fascinated by the history of these little artifacts, the stories they hold: who carried them? what was their story? I'm sure my story is far less interesting, but, I do my best to honour their memory, whoever they were. Just like you have remembered me. Thank you to all of you for who you are and what you do. I'm truly grateful for each of you. I hope that 2021 turns out much better than 2020 for all of us, even though we seem to be having a rough start. At least we still have coins, right? Take care! Erin
What a wonderful collection! Congrats! Do well, Erin. It is always fun to read your posts. Thanks for your contributions! Kindest, Brian
Wowzers, Erin! That's awesome that you were gifted all those great coins....but...but...but.. I feel left out ... because I did not send you one!! Yet, that is! I am sure I have something in my collection you might like to have. Do you have a coin with a prancing horse on it? I am almost sure I still have one of those. I'll find it and snap a photo of it over the next few days and message ya! It's great to see ya and I'm glad you're doing well. I was just telling someone that I was a recluse long before the pandemic so I know how to have fun on my own! Virtual 6 foot away hugs for you. La Cointessa
It's not an ancient, but @kazuma78 gave me this beauty late last year. France: bronze essai (5-centimes pattern by Barre) of Louis Phillipe I, 1840 Obverse: LOUIS PHILIPPE I ROI DES FRANÇAIS, laureate bust left. "BARRE 1840" below truncation. Reverse: REFONTE DES MONNAIES DE CUIVRE / 5 / CENT. / ESSAI; denomination within wreath. The Stacks-Bowers auction photos here (which were shot through the plastic of the somewhat scuffy older NGC slab) aren't fantastic, but the coin itself is! This is not the first time Josh has gifted me very generously (almost too generously) with a nice coin. These two below were gifts from him as well. The Lincoln cent came from an original roll saved by his great-grandfather in 1909. Very cool pedigree. Roman Empire: billon reduced centenionalis; VRBS ROMA city commemorative, ca. 330-340 AD Obverse: VRBS ROMA, bust of Roma left in plumed helmet, imperial mantle, and ornamental necklace. Reverse: Lupa Romana (she-wolf) left, suckling the twins Romulus and Remus; two stars above; • ASIS • mintmark in exergue. United States: bronze Lincoln cent, 1909-VDB; from a roll saved by Ohio banker Leroy Zachman in 1909
@ominus1 was very kind and gifted me this very cool BRONZE square coin from the Indo-Greeks. I did not have any and he really hit the spot! Very cool! Amazing person. Indian AE Square Fractional Karshapana punch 125 BCE 9.0x8.2mm 0.86g Ex: @ominus1
I like that coin. And it is great to see you @Alegandron! Hopefully you are healthy and fine in every sense. It's so good to see everyone I have been missing but did not realize it. and you too @Theodosius !! :-D (of course)
@Alegandron - I am enjoying cleaning crusty ancients - And I am enjoying gifting my coins. There are only 5 coins that I own that I will never part with. I realize there is no reason to hang on to all these coins for much longer. I have no one to leave them to and I am not a spring chicken....
Funny... I was just thinking this past week that there are maybe 15 coins I own with which I could not/will not part. @Johndakerftw - Erin, I just messaged you!
Some awesome gifts here, cool AE punchmark coin @Alegandron , awesome toned modern @lordmarcovan , and awesome all sorts of stuff @Johndakerftw ! I LOVE that full sized @Deacon Ray poster!!
