MPC's are a cool subset of paper money to collect. Alot of MPC's have some great designs, and most are very collectible. I have a few, mostly notes thrown into world notes lots - certainly nothing of much value lol But they are pretty cool. You wouldnt happen to have any MPC's would you lettow? It would be alot of fun to go, but alas, i wont be able to. I really do need to get off this chair and away from the PC more often.. that would certainyl make my wife happy lol
I also collect MPC's. I don't remember how I got into them but I sure like them. I'm from Ohio originally but there's no way I can attend the show, so, go and have a good time. I'm sure it will be great. Wow! you aint kidding! You do like them I will admit, i do as well! It amazing to me how they can have such artistry abotu them, even when a note is only valued at 5cents. I love that 5 cent eagle!!! amazing!
Nothing to see in MPC's, they are all ugly uninspired pieces of useless paper money, just move along....
not me!! i am so used to the US way of using stars, i never see a note as replacement on world notes unless someone points it out to me. Alot of countries use the 'z' prefix to denote a replacement, what is used for MPC's? Also, i have seen some info in the pick about mpc's for some countries, but what is a good publication dedicated tothe subject? (a good time for a plug lol)
One of the few types of notes that I have yet to add to my mill collection but I am working on it :high5: If any of you do go I hope that you have a great time of it :hug:
MPC replacements use what I've sometimes heard called "zap" serials: the suffix is missing entirely, as on this note from dready's collection. (When reading such a serial aloud, some collectors will say "zap" for the missing letter, to emphasize the point that there's really nothing there....)
The publication on MPC is the Standard Catalog of Military Payment Certificates by Fred Schwan. It is available on Amazon, etc. or directly from Fred at fredschwan@yahoo.com. You can also find a ton of information on MPC at www.papermoneyworld.net Numbers is correct that the missing suffix letter denotes a replacement for MPC. MPC replacements are scarce. Even the common ones in low grade generally exceed $100.00. The most expensive MPC note known was a private sale for the first Series 521 $.25 replacement which went for in excess of $20,000.00. No Series 651 $5.00 replacements are known at this time. The first to surface will bring big bucks.
Good god don't go on a frenzy If your collection was to branch out in a impressive way as the one you currently have, every one would have to drool in awe.
Weryon...you do not have to worry about that...LOL I love the MPC but what I have on my plate is enough. A dealer friend of mine won the PCGS Award for a complete set of MPC's in 2008. That is one very high dollar note in choice grade, crazily enough there were not many of them printed or used in the field.
