I see a 65 still being bid at $175 or so and a 67 CAC going for just under $800. The 66 or 66+ splits them more or less ?
Pick, the 1882-S is so plentiful that I really don't need to look at AU-58, on second thought. But alot of coins that are very pricey in MS cheapen up alot when I goto AU-58. For me, I wanted to spend a few hundred but I couldn't get MS65 for some of the Morgans I was looking at for certain years. So I either had to drop down to the low-60's...pay more....or goto AU-58.
Time to revive this thread! I know it is just a raw common date 1884-P, but I picked this up from my LCS over the weekend and took photos. I just went to VamWorld and spent some time and was able to come up with VAM 9 - Very Far Date EDS. It has all the die scratches in exactly the right places, including the one piercing the eye lid and the pitted eagle on the reverse that I think you can see in the picture.
Might be a better set of pics. Top of the red lines are the PUPs for the die scratches for the Vam 9. The foot of the 4 is slightly doubled. Only one of the die scratches on the reverse shows (top of red line), but the pitting in the eagle shows.
GSA hoard. Encapsulated, not certified. I understand that they can now be certified without cracking the GSA holders.
Yes, they leave the GSA holder alone and put a blue ribbon with the grade around it. If you put some close-up pics here, the Morgan experts can tell you what the likely grade will be and if it is worth it to submit to a TPG. Most of these GSAs are graded 62-63.
