I purchased this right after Christmas but it finally showed up today. I only paid about $4 over melt for it and it came with OGP and everything. That is actually less than the original price of $28 pre-issue or $33 regular price in 1991. I have been struggling to find commemoratives to fill my 7070 with since I want them to have some sort of significance. Since I am a Korean linguist in the military and have been to Korea many times, this coin is fits with what I'm trying to find. The half dollars are going to be a lot more difficult I think. I still have a ways to go to get where @dwhiz is with his 7070. But it gives me something to work towards.
It’s a nice design and I understand why you selected this commemorative, but why does it say « 38th anniversary »? Why not issue the coin in 2003 or just say « remember 1953 »?
I’m assuming that it was the 38th anniversary to be in line with the 38th parallel what divided Korea.
Sounds like a good idea, I currently just have 4 random halves stuffed in my 7070. Thing is, my favorite commems are a little pricey. A gentleman at my church is a Korean War vet, former Air Force mechanic. Ninety-one years young and can do a full set of pull-ups.
Yeah the halves that would be the most significant would be California, Hawaii, Maryland, and Rhode Island. None of those are in my budget.
They never made one for Kansas, so for me Missouri, Wisconsin, and the Pilgrim halves would be important as that's where I can trace family lineage. Of those, I could swing the Pilgrim half the easiest, but the money for a Wisconsin and Missouri is probably better spent on finishing the Seated Dollars and getting some nice early coppers.
