I have two Jefferson nickels, from 1962 and '63. The mint mark, D, is on the reverse, to the right of Monticello. Usually it is directly below the date on the obverse. Is this normal for coins of these dates, or is this an error?

Mint marks for Jefferson Nickels were on the reverse until 1965. 1965-1967 nickels had no mint mark. Mint mark moved to obverse staring 1968.

This is where mint marks were located from 1964 and back. Your coins are normal.

Welcome to CT Devyn. While your question didn't require photos, future posts with questions regarding your coins should include good, in focus, full image photos. Good luck.
