So I use capsules for storage of my coins. I recently purchased an 1805 draped bust quarter. My first one ever and I wasn't expecting it to be larger than today's. It says they are 27.5mm I am trying to locate some capsules that will fit these coins. All I can find are some 27mm that claim to be 27.2mm inside diameter. Anyone know if these quarters will fit into these capsules? Even the seller doesn't know, even though the title says they will. Screenshot_20210111-070428_eBay.jpg

Maybe not a direct fit, but airtites might work with the foam insert.

t's a direct fit capsule for 27 millimeter diameter coins, and a direct fit for 28mm. I've never seen a 27.5mm direct fit capsule.

if you are looking for 27.5 it would be the one for Coronet Large Cents (1837-1857) which is going to be 28mm in direct fit and may or may not fight exactly right. it can be a little loose, or too tight in a 27mm.

The “Capped Bust” was produced from 1815 – 1838 and 27 mm and the standards were pretty solid for the diameter. but the earlier stuff like the draped bust and coronet large cent from 1800-1900 the diameter was inconsistent.

here's the issue I think though nobody makes a 27.5.
it's for the same reason nobody makes a large cent 27.5mm either. the diameter isn't consistent, sometimes it was 27, or 27.5, or 28mm, and wear is also a factor so they don't bother with them and you measure you coins diameter to the millimeter and buy a 27 or a 28 or a ring capsule instead....

the other option would be to use the one with the ring gaskets instead of direct fit capsules and get 27mm and 28mm ring gaskets. one or the other will work and this might save you a little of having to buy both capsules, and just buy the ring gaskets and the capsules that fit both of the ring gaskets.

Yes I figured out these were different from all the others listed on the auction. Thanks for the reply I was looking at the coronet ones. They do make some square ones with a foam insert that is set at 27.5 but for my storage the square was larger than I wanted. I was going to look into foam ring ones. I think I could squeeze this one into a 27mm foam.

Lighthouse.us has some holders for 27.5mm coins, but regular capsules are either for 27 or 28mm sized coins.

PS: I wouldn’t try to “squeeze in” a coin with a larger diameter into a smaller capsule, you risk to damage the coin. Try a number of 28mm capsules and use the one which fits best.
