A great photo Donna. Thanks for sharing this. I spent some time looking at enlargements of your coins. This is a very nice curated collection.
Oh god no I hope the month, if waiting for the other two I guess I would have to wait forever. I don't think that would be nessesary. One have to understand the purpose of the picture in its context. Besides this is a forum so if someone want to se more of a specific coin why not simply ask for more pictures?
Lovely coins! And that display case for the ancient coins I see in your photo is interesting. What (kind of) case is it? Good idea, and I'm thinking of taking group photo's more often. Its interesting to see the variation in diameter etc in perspective like that. Although I'm 1) not a good photographer and don't have a good camera, so pictures of coins could end up with a disturbing/annoying (in my opinion ) background. And 2) I enjoy to pretty up my coins, cropping, cutting them digitally and adding a backgroup and info. It's part of the hobby I enjoy. But I guess I could do both! Another interesting group shot. Lovely to see your coins like this.
About 15 years ago I made this background for desktop to see if I could. To view it, you would have to install it as a tiled (repeating over and over to fill the screen)desktop in Windows (does Mac allow this?). I decided it was too busy for easy icon viewing so I faded the image allowing things on top of it to stand out. I could not bring myself to piling up the coins so this is a fake compilation constructed in Photoshop Elements. It was fun to construct but may not be something most people would enjoy doing. Of course a single background image would be better avoiding the repetition of images across the screen.
It's a Royal Mint proof set box, in fact its the case that the silver piedforts immediately to its right came in; they are seated on the removable felt insert that came inside the case. When the insert is removed the box that remains is itself felt lined. Very luxurious feel with beautiful external surfaces, hinges and magnetic soft close. But you need to buy a silver or gold proof set to get the box.
Here's a group shot of my collection from about 2.5 years ago. I like the angled perspective shot, artistically speaking. I think my collection now is almost 5x that size.
I love these group shots I think the coins can look better as a group most times , these are a few of my denarii I took a while back
That coin at the bottom looks kind of familiar. Lol Love the man faced bull and patina on this one. Erin
Trivia minute: the French were issuing piedforts as of the 13th century. The examples I know of are ecclesiastical, from Reims; not even royal. From that, you might guess it was already a common enough practice.
Erin, You are right, that is really cool you have that coin in your collection now! I'm sure I selected it for the group photo because of its sweet green patina. John
@Andrew McCabe, starting a thread with that title, you may find some on this forum who agree with you.
Talking about groups of coins, I hope you enjoy these pictures I shot at the Museo Nazionale Romano in Rome. The second picture is the Vicarello hoard.
Nice shot! It's fun to be able to enlarge it and see more detail on the individual coins. I enjoy both actual trays that show only particular coins and only one side of those coins, as well as virtual trays and collages showing all coins in both obverse and reverse. I've posted many of my own on this site.
