I have been assembling a MS set for my father-in-law's birthyear. I wanted a proof set until I found out the cost of a 1937 set. So, what I'm wondering, is there a TPG, or another company that will put these coins into a custom multi-holder? Besides, the '37 coins (half, quarter, dime, nickel, cent) I'd like to include a proof state quarter of his birth state, will anyone do this? Fred
I've seen plastic holders for one of each coin for a certain year at coin shows and coin stores. Rather than having someone make one, try a coin store for the plastic holder and make one yourself. Might take some time accumulating high grade 1937 coins but much cheaper than a 1937 proof set. If you stopped in a coin store I'm sure they would put a Uncirc set together for you. Might be a little costly but worth a try.
I actually have some of the coins, and they have already been graded by different major TPGs. I was thinking I could either resubmit all of them to a TPG or take them to someone like a picture framer, although I'd be a bit uncomfortable leaving these coins with someone like a picture framer. I think I could have a friend punch out some slugs of the same diameter to take care of that problem. Fred
You could get a Capital Plastic's holder, then put them in yourself. They do make custom holders but I do not know what they charge for custom holders. You can check it out at capital plastics dot com
Over the years I have ordered several custom Capital Plastics holders. As noted they arn't cheap, but it is a quality piece of goods, that will last and protect the investment you are making.
You are talking about six coins so they could be accommodated by an NGC multi-coin holder. They would have to be submitted for grading with instructions to multi-holder the coins and what order you would want them placed in the holder. The cost wouldjust be the grading fee for each coin I believe, and if any of them are already in NGC slabs it would just be the reholder fee for those coins. A custom Capital Plastics holder might not be any more expensive than that, but it would have the advantage that you could design the actual holder and the holes would fit the coins exactly rather than having all six holes the same size and using clear plastic "spacers" to hold each coin in the holes.

One thing not covered here is does he like, collect or even want coins? This is something you may want to try to find out. So many older people have different ideas of what to get, keep or want. By that I always remember my Dad yelling at me for trying to buy him stuff. By the time he was in his 80's he really didn't want to much of anything. I too am now getting to that age where I am in the process of getting rid of Stuff. Your ideas are great but for a person interested in coins. I suggest you check first about coins. Of course you might want to look into a 1937 Packard for him.

While he is not a collector, they had a break-in some time ago, and I've heard the story multiple times, as my wife has, about the rolls of his birthdate coins that he was saving for his children and grand children, over and above things much more expensive. My wife thinks he'll love it! Plus, if we were to buy him a 37 Packard, it would be a rusty piece of 'Sandford and Son' junk that would sit in his yard like a cheap trailer park Then I'd want to turn it into a tubed drag car :thumb: I've just finished purchasing all the coins and if he doesn't want it, I'll take it back and buy him a shirt and tie! Here is a site that makes custom holders. He is a member on the CU forum and if you go there and search "custom holder" or "custom holders" you can see some more examples of his work. I have used him for a few colonial medal multi-holders and have been more than satisfied by the workmanship and turnaround time.
