I'm a coin collector that knows nothing of paper currency, so what can I expect to pay for a 1914 $5 bill?
I guess it all depends on the grade,condition,signatures/ Fr. # & how bad you want it. They could range at the top end around $950 to the low end of $25 (maybe less if it is a rag) For blue seals ,On average for a nice VF you would pay $85-100 ,there is not a big jump to XF pricing usually around $130-$150. Also probelms like margin tears,lots of pinholes, & stains can brong the prices down so be aware of issues with the paper quality. Hope this helps-:smile

Worth about $15 IMHO With all the damage it is a Fair grade note. I wouls stay away ,especially from anything that has the word estate in it on eBay
ok i will do that...as long as he doesn't accept the offer i made about 4 hours ago lol...i offered him 30 for it, but i doubt he'll accept it. i really want a 1914 $5 bill for my collection, I'm doing a sort of type set with lincoln just for the fun of it, so i'm trying to collect all u.s. denominations with lincoln on them and i'm gonna put them in a shadow box in my house, so the 1914 would be ideal since it's the first year with him on the $5 bill. where would you suggest i look?
Ebay is a great place to find things becuase ther are so many listings. I would suggest being patient, deciding what grade you want then, budget for that expense. I doubt that guy will accept your offer on that one, but he should. Anyway, goodluck. John
If I may say so...I would not touch that note for $75...the staining, margin tears, folds, paper breaks...it has all the wrong indicators for $75... The thing it has going for it is that the note is a type "C" you can tell this by looking at how far the seal is to the right on the left side of the note plus the Large G7 in the lower left Center as well as the small G7 in the upper Left top of the note. Much more scarce than type a or B In Fine it lists at $65...that note would be lucky to get a "good" Just my two cents! RickieB
If the seller is smart, he will take the offer of $30, as the note is not worth that much! The friedberg book lists this Chicago White/Mellon type C issue as $65 in very good. This note is clearly not even close to that grade, so i would think the note, as said earlier, is worth much less then the askign price in that auction.
well thats a load off my mind...he declined my offer, choosing not to sell it at all i guess, but that's fine with me. i was afraid i was stuck with it. so where should i go for some good deals on a 1914 $5?
you can get good deals, at least they might seem that way, on Ebay. Just be careful as you might get what you pay for I have gotten alot of great notes off ebay, both US and world, but you have to know what your buying so you dont get taken. The note you posted above, if you had gotten it for $30, wouldnt have been so bad, it would have been a pretty cheap lesson. Always remember, you are more then welcome to post questions and ask for opionins here just be carefull about telling us which note you are reffering to lol someone might want it for themselves
