Hi all. Just thought I might share my newest acquisition with you:- It is a 1995 Jamaica gold $50 proof coin. It contains 7,776 grams of 14 carat gold and was a limited issue of 5,000... comes complete with own box and certificate of authenticity. Commemorates the Queen Mother as Lady Of The Century. I won't divulge what I paid for it but perhaps you might tell me how much you would have paid. Not sure what it's worth but I'm sure someone will enlighten me... It was a bargain though, I do know that. Best wishes, Mike.
I like to think of these type coins as affordable and curious bullion pieces. Several years ago some of the Bahamian coins were worth less than face value in gold, back when gold was like $350 or so. It was a novelty to own a coin at less than the face value, apparently the Reserve bank wasn't to hot on accepting the coins as tender. $50 in Jamaica isn't worth too much, so that coin is more a bullion piece now.
Nice gold Mike:thumb: It is probably considered what I call a collector's bullion piece (sells higher than mass minted bullion due to limited mintage numbers) Based on the way I calculate/estimate sale value on these things (@$925/oz spot)... $175-$200. I would not pay that much ... but I'm not interested in adding collector bullion to my collection.
Thanks for that,,, I guessed it would be gold weight that would do it. Would you believe that I bought the coin at an Antique Fair for £25 ($34) and the guy was asking the same money for silver proofs.. not a coin dealer obviously. Thanks again and Best wishes, Mike.
