I have made it a point since Christmas to use cash for my daily transactions as my credit card demanded a vacation. To date I have not had a single issue using cash or receiving change in return. Perhaps a glimmer of hope or have I just been lucky?
Well.... For the longest time retailers had signs out that they were unable to make change and preferred card transactions.
People feared hand to hand exchanges of any kind. With 20,000 deaths a week, can’t say I blame them. Now hospitals are overwhelmed
You're right, cash is king but I went to a local bakery on 1/7 and they only accepted CC's, so there's still some places.
I think that the shortage was driven by the fact that everyone was staying home, including the transporters and suppliers of the cash/coinage, in addition to the customers and shut down businesses, which caused less cash to circulate. Thankfully, from my point of view, Massachusetts law requires businesses to accept cash as payment. I am not a fan of debt cards (not a mis-spelling, but what they are), especially for daily use.
We haven't had any cash only issues here in Nowhere, Texas. I've used cash several times with no problems. And, we shredded some credit cards on the 1st.
I haven't had a problem through out the past year, I use cash for most all transactions. There were a few times that I was asked for the correct change. Still not a problem, I usually have about 30$ worth in my truck door. I grabbed a few handfuls and exchanged them for bills.
Even many of the self checkout terminals at Walmart will not accept cash. This has been the case for quite a while. As I mentioned some time ago, my wife gives me all of her change from her purchases since she refuses to count it out whenever she is buying something with cash. There have been times when I have had more than $5 in change that I put in their machines, but it sometimes means you have to wait. It must be different in south Louisiana, though, as we have not encountered any places that refuse to accept cash. Since I have been mugged and robbed twice, though, I prefer to carry just one credit card and very little cash. Quicken tells me I have $2.21 in cash right now.
I've never had a problem using cash, even with signs up at a business. No arguments and always received my change.
I haven't been in a store since March of last year, lol. I do curbside pickup, drive through and delivery for everything. I'm responsible for a very covid-vulnerable family member and I'm not taking any chances I don't have to. Can't wait for the vaccine!!!!!!
At the hospital there are certain procedures that have to be paid for at the time of service. We will take credit cards, and we will take checks. We won't take cash, or at least we aren't supposed to.
