OK, we have had best and worse times at the coin shops, how about your bank, as it relates to coins.
I have been dealing with my bank for only about a month. The tellers all know I collect coins because I get my half dollar rolls from them every week. The vault manager called my house Saturday and left a message that I might want to come to the bank Tuesday morning, she had a roll of halves I would be interested in. Bank opened this morning at 9am, I was their at 9:01. She handed me a roll of franklins! :) only two dates were doubled. I offered to buy her lunch, which she politely refused and said she just wanted to show me that not all bank tellers took all the good stuff.
Pretty nice start to my franklin collection. guess i better get a book to hold them now :D .

Now that is what you call a friendly banker. The silver value alone was worth lunch for her. Seems to me if you were to send some flowers without a signature, all bets are that you get additional phone calls. Way to go Dude! :D

This one's easy. It was 1982 and I had just gotten a couple of brand new 1982-P quarters at a store. I asked where they did their banking and as luck would have it their bank was right across the street and I had an account there. I walked over and asked to speak to the vault manager but he said they won't provide coin even to customers like this. I went home and went over all my receipts from the bank for the last seven years with a fine tooth comb and found seven small errors totaling about 26c in my favor.

The next day I had a ton 'o fun at the bank. I asked to see a representative an asked if it would be much trouble for them to straighten out these errors. When his color came back I offered to forego the 26c if they would supply me bags of new coin. Very soon the vault manager appeared with a nice fresh bag of '82-P quarters. It worked too. There were dozens of very choice coins in it and a real nice gem.

Sounds like I have a bank just like yours...I known a lady for a long time that has worked at a few banks but about last year she came to be head teller at the bank I go too so its been great!!!
today she went through about 300 $1 bills to pull out UNC for be to buy---I'm going to put some rubber glue on the end and make a tear off sheat of bills!!...I might have to talk to a few police men before I use them all!!!!

Star notes are fun  Sometimes when they print off bills, they make an error. Or, they use a bill for testing. So they destroy the bill. And they cant have serial missing serial numbers out there in circulation, so they go back and reprint the bill, but instead of using the origian serial number, they take off the last letter and add a star, which looks a lot like * <that.

At my old bank, they didn't even keep supplies of halves, which I used to look through for Franklins and 40% Kennedys. But I changed banks and this is a good reminder to me to go ask them. Half dollars don't seem to circulate much, so there are still some nice ones to be found.

After reading about the box of half dollars I decided to give that a try. My credit union will only dispense funds through cashiers checks and their ATM's. Its the most ridiculous policy I've ever heard of. So I went to another local bank, where I do not have an account. I had a nice conversation with the head teller, and although they never order half dollars, she has agreed to order a box for me! I was amazed because, as a rule, customer service people around my area, and at banks in particular, are usually very rude. The halfs should be in next week and I'll post the results. And by the way... I am moving an investment account into that bank!

ToDay!!! I had to go and make a deposit and after reading about all the finds the great people on this fourm have been getting, I decided to ask the teller for some 1/2 dollar rolls. I got a plastic bag of 40 Kennedys, 19 of them are 1964 (90% pure silver) 15 of them are 40% silver...can you say Cha Ching$$

    WOWzers!!

only 90% silver...I think the other 10% is copper!!

    Still a GREAT find!!!!!!

Maybe you'll get more....if you have a calling card you might leave one with the tellers...I did and now most of them call me by name and save coins for me...that I don't even have an account there...my dad does so maybe that helps!!!!

I have $64.50 in Kennedy Half dollars. Most of them are from the 70's and 80's, but I find an occasional one from the 60's. I even found a 1976 S mint half dollar from them!I liked it so much, that I actually went out and bought an actual Proof one. :D

Thanks Speedy for the 90%..I forgot to add it in..but afterall we all know that up to 1964 that the comp was 90% or at least we should. I was shocked that the teller handed them to me in a baggie with a 20.00 tag on it..things happen or so it seems.

wow! Wouldn't mind that happening to me. Right after the peace nickels came out I went to different banks asking if they had any rolls of them. At one bank I asked if I could have twenty rolls (this was before I realized how popular they were) and surprisingly gave them too me. The same day I was at another bank and I was asking about the state quarters and they about handed me rolls of the nickels. I took 5 but now I wish I would have taken more. Now with the buffalos it is almost impossible to get a whole roll they are limiting them so much.
