What is this 1958 D Wheat Penny?

I know I said I was done, but that was before my roll of 1958D mostly uncirculated Wheat Cents arrived! Something is weird on both sides of the E in EPU. Can anybody tell me what this is? It almost looks like an I on the left and a U on the right. I will try to take better photos if necessary.

I keep trying different keywords to locate examples of this on other coins via google but nothing seems to be coming up.

It might be a clash, but I can't tell much with the glare. Do you think it's that?

 

I honestly don't know what to think. Die clashes are the next thing I planned to tackle after I got the hang of spotting doubled dies, so I haven't learned much about them. I'll try to get better pictures, one minute

 

I can't seem to get better pictures. The coin is so shiny that the angles that show it best also create a ton of glare.

 

That happens often with uncirculated coins. Softening the light by diffusing it with a filter of some kind can reduce the glare. Also, light from multiple directions can create/eliminate shadows that either hide the feature you want to point out, or make it pop in the photo. Taking good pictures takes practice, some ingenuity, and patience. But it can be a lot of fun mastering a shot. So don't be discouraged.

 

I appreciate the tips! I have some formal training with cameras and film techniques, I just can't seem to find the right light to get the picture. I am still trying though!

 

These are the best I could get. Just to the left and slightly below the E, and slightly below the E to the right.

 

Is it raised?

 

Yes, but the coin is so shiny that I can't get it to really stand out in pictures. It's visible with just the jeweler's loop irl

 

It could be a die clash if raised.

Yes it can be difficult. If it is a clash it should be part of Lincoln's lower left I believe, unless the Die was rotated.

 

I will check for signs there, thanks! A buddy of mine is about to trade me his coin collection. None of it is searched, he just collected certain thinfs that are inherently valuable because of what they are, like mercury dimes, buffalo nickels, eisenhowers, franklin and kennedy halfs, etc I'm stoked.
