Wondering if anyone can explain why there is so much doubling. Also found around the mouth and forehead.
The flat, shelf-like doubling is characteristic of Mechanical (or Machine) Doubling (MD). Unfotunately, these coins don't sell for a premium...(nice pics, btw. 2018?) Machine-doubled coins originate in the striking press. While doubled dies are caused by doubling of the design on the die itself, machine doubling is often caused by an aging die reverberating or shifting during the strike — hitting the coin twice. This is most typically an issue with aging, deteriorating dies or those that aren’t properly adjusted in the presses. https://coins.thefuntimesguide.com/machine-doubling-doubled-dies/#:~:text=While doubled dies are caused, properly adjusted in the presses.
Welcome to CT Shandin. When taking a photo of your coins, try to have two light sources or natural light so the full coin doesn't have shadows. It makes it a lot easier for members to view and give opinions. Also if you can crop your photos so just the coin shows with no background, that helps too. Good luck.
