Congrats to everyone who won a Registry Award! I recognize at least a few names on this list. You all should be super proud! https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/8807/2020-ngc-registry-awards/ For those of you unfamiliar with the NGC Registry awards, go ahead and grab a cup of coffee or tea, click on the link, and be prepared for a really interesting couple hours of reading and perusing world class sets.
Interesting read. Unfortunately, my time is limited for any in depth study of all the sets, therefore, I concentrated specifically on those of interest to me. WOW!!
Thanks. Looks like one of my sets won for Best Presented World Set. You and @Lehigh96 have won in a best presented category before too if I remember correctly?
Thank you for posting this here @physics-fan3.14. I summed up my reaction pretty well over there so I figured I would include it here as well. This is the second year in a row that NGC’s generosity has completely caught me off guard. I never expected I would win a major registry award, much less two! This year, the set that represents the core of my collecting interests won the “Most Informative Custom Set” award, and I am beyond grateful. The NGC registry provides an invaluable platform for me to share my collection and passion for the history it represents with fellow collectors. I have dedicated a good deal of time to building several custom sets with the intent to provide knowledge to interested collectors in an enjoyable format. The NGC comments provide extended hope for that goal. This honor has provided some much needed good news in an otherwise bleak year. I would like to thank the NGC staff for their consideration and generosity. Congratulations to all the winners!
Congrats to the winners! @jgenn Congrats on your world crown award, lovely set, I had fun going through it
Yes, I've won Best Presented US set twice, once for my Franklin half set, once for my Prooflike type set.
Thank you! I'm not sure how long it took. I finished most of the writing in 2019 when free time was still a thing, but I was never satisfied with it. Whenever I had a spare 15 minutes, I made a point to revise small sections with any newly discovered information. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m having fun building it. I imagine this will be a lifelong project of mine.
Thanks @Mkman123, for the shout out! And let me congratulate, fellow Fairfax Coin Club member @Jaelus. For a long time I believed NGC only recognized sets with high grade and/or top pop coins. But my set that won Best Classic Set award last year and the one winning Best World Custom Set this time have almost no MS level coins and many "details" graded ones. It's gratifying to see that some sets can win awards based more on the vision of the collector's goal rather than technical perfection.
Congrats on your win - a fantastic custom crown set! Unbelievable we have 2 major awards for the club this year (at least?).
@jgenn @Jaelus Fairfax VA I presume? I'm in the wrong part of VA for that! But go VA! There are some cool sets on that list by the way. I must admit (at risk of exposing my NGC alter ego...though my avatars are similar) I was a bit gobsmacked. I almost didn't even click on the email as coins/collecting have been on the back burner and it just wasn't on the radar. But it is fun to look, so look I did. Funny, for that set there was only one new coin and no changes of substance to the write up this year, yet there it was. Makes one wonder about the process for sure. Plus, I just don't consider that set super interesting to anyone but me and maybe 3 other people. That said, it's motivating and now I feel like I should go back and tweak my 'good set' (custom Japan type) which I've hesitated on as I would lose some of the old formatting that allowed html and embedding a photo. I wish they would get the custom sets into the new format. I have plans.
