Ha, yea I know, fake, but I got this in a collection I aquired, I was wondering why this was faked, was it a give away or a souvenier or something? Weren't the originals essentially re minted US issue and would have a conventional obverse? As you can see it is two reverses, one with the date and one without. This is obviously cast and if you look at the edges you can tell that both sides have been put together, there is a seam on the edge. And why is it painted black? Was that just some kid that got ahold of it?

There could be a couple different reasons why it was made that way. It may have been that way deliberately so it would not be confused with originals or the restrikes, with the intention that it would be sold as a novelty.

It could be that somebody was making a batch of fakes and mistakenly used two different obverses on a batch.
