Here's what I can my "liquid" 1953 proof. This coin has the wettest looking surfaces out of any coin in my collection.

That's a nice one. I would love to get one like that. How much do they go for?

AMAZINGLY CHEAP! I found this gem at a coin show for $30. CDN is COMPLETELY out of whack on these, they list $7. If you ever managed to find one at that price, I suspect it would be PR60 at best.

Here's a fun one....I inherited this from my grandfather. Sorry not many pictures, but it's locked up at the bank.

Cool set, but is that wear on the quarter?

  10. Not wear. The silver is reacting to the cello causing it to tone/haze cause pvc if left it might damage the coins surface.

I'd cut it out and soak it in acetone to stop the pvc/hazing etc...

Oh, that's a shame. I wouldn't take it out if it were handed down to me by my grandfather.

It's an original proof set, this is how they came in 1952.

Toned - I realize that, but there's no way I'm taking the coins out...there's sentimental value that exceeds the coins value for me. :)

I realize that it is an original proof set, your coins are going to be ruined like not even worth 1/2 the value after that PVC eats them up.

if its original mint packaging the celo. has no pvc.
if it did the coins would be green as the green giants big toe by now...
I have several original mint sets from the early fiftys, some have hazing, some are bright white. I suspect it has more to do with the humidity of the environment they where stored in...

and DO keep them in the original packaging, people are already paying a hefty premium for original untouched sets!

    ...besides he sentimental value :)

  18. I Like that toning too!

    Nice
