dprice7: just bought a bunch of the Eagle pages for my nearly complete 1932-1998 Quarter collection, including proofs. They are currently in a Dansco album except for the more expensive ones (over $50). Midas, on another post had suggessted to use Eagle album pages and Intercept 2x2's. I don't want to use the individual Eagle holders due to needing glue to secure the edges (don't want the byproduct of that on my coins). Someone else on CT said this method scratches the Intercept plastic and it certainly does as I found out tonight. I could barely get the Intercept 2x2's in the Eagle holders so I tried to turn them vertically and they fit better (Intercepts are slightly rectangular-not a perfect square). However, they definitely scratched the Intercept. Do I spend $300? on the some 300 Intercepts needed for my full quarter collection to have the plastic scratched on all of them during the inserting process into the Eagle album? This hardly seems logical. Do I put them all in Intercepts and have THREE 100 holder intercept boxes for only one collection?? Talk about a storage issue. Do I put them in Air-tites and put in Air-tite album that has PVC. Not to mention the removal of the proofs risk damage to them (I hairlined some of them putting them in) Do I live with the toning? I will include of photo of what some of the toning looked like. The 1939 D was shiny white when I bought it.
Many of the quarters started to tone in my safe when I took them out of ziplocks erroneously thinking that they had PVC in them. I guess the Dansco absorbed the ambient moisture despite dessicants (humidity was 55-60% at that time). I now have all coins regardless of storage method in Reynolds Handi-vac vaccuum ziplocks with rechargeable 40 gram tin dessicant with air sucked out and then surrounded by another bigger ziplock bag. Most all coins except graded ones in Intercept 2x2's and in Intercept boxes. Toning and damage occurred to some of those coins as well when I took them out of the ziplocks for about 1 month +. Had bought new shelves as well that were made for the safe (Gardall) that are made of particle board and carpet-like liner over them:desk:- my dumb, lack of inexperience. Needless to say, I have put new custom cut stainless steal shelves in ($248!!), and added a ridiculous # of reachargeable dessicants. Every single box or book of coins has a tin dessicant (rechargeable 40 grams) next to it in the ziplocks. Also, risk damaging the proofs upon removal. Any advice is appreciated. I want maximum protection with viewing pleasure. Part of me says leave the quarters in the Dansco and figure they won't tone anymore now that I have them sealed with lots of dessicants. I am removing the Slip covers for now as I feel they somewhat limit the ability of the dessicant to reaborb any moisture out of the paper part of the album. Someone said taking care of coins is harder than taking care of a pet. I absolutely agree. All quarters are BU- GEM level so this is a big investment at this point. No replys telling me how retarded I am for buying such expensive coins and putting them in an album. I figured that out on my own, but the alternatives don't seem very appealing at this time.
PS ignore the poll- I didn't realize how it is used

That would have read easier if you used some paragraphs. Anyway, I think your storage choice is as much about personal preference as about price. As long as you're using something that is safe for the coins, buy what you want and can afford.
