Ugh, I discovered today my favorite bank closed their lobby starting yesterday. I have had my coin roll hunting on hold since March, had the itch today, so stopped by my fav bank to "scratch the itch", and was turned away.

went to my second fav bank across town and there were 10 people in line in the lobby...hmmm a very different approach to the same (covid) problem...I wasn't willing to wait in line, so tonight I'm without coins :(

Best to all who are still able to search :):)

I think this might be my favorite roll find from all of last year.

Please enjoy the unbelievably rare "1 in Neck"

It came out of a genuine vintage roll from the early 60's from someone I've been purchasing from for a decade or so. Usually my photos are excellent but these were taken as I excitedly found it lol!

Not in the greatest condition but there are only a few dozen ever graded in both PCGS and NGC combined...and almost half of them are actually in worse condition than this one is. I'm unlikely to get it graded but holy wow, so rare!!!

An interesting side note is that no one, not even the experts have been able to definitively explain how it happened...because there is clearly a "1" in her neck lol!

20210108_195929.jpg Well the last two box's of halves had no silver only a few NIFC's. I picked up a new box yesterday and it had a 1964 ender showing when I opened the box. Not in very good condition but I will take it. I hope this is a good sign for the rest of the box. View attachment 1232219

What's most interesting about it is that the "1" is not the same as the "1" in the date. It's shorter (look at the vertical space between the serifs), plus the top serif is different, it's more curled at the tip. What the heck? That's the first I've ever heard of this error. NICE FIND.

    Your thoughts...

NIFC's in the Kennedy series (post 2002) have typical mintage numbers in the 2 million range. In the last year or so, I am seeing more and more of them in my boxes in the mid-west (both mints).

    Why?

Was it the "coin shortage" (not really a shortage, but a circulation problem as we all know) of the covid era? Back in the day when I young and dumb, I bought the overpriced rolls and bags from the mint. No more. Then, I thought they will never be worth the premium that I paid, so I dumped them. Have any of you done or experienced the same thing. Thanks.

I went my local CU and it has been awhile since I even asked for rolls. He said that he had halves I said I'll take $500 he mentioned that unless I order I can't have that much but they limit the amount of rolls they give, blah blah blah. He gave me ten rolls I got excited because they were hand rolled some with years written on the roll like 1971 and others with the banker signature and date rolled. Took them to the car and was presently surprised, one roll 1969 40% and two rolls of 1967 40%.
I went home happy got my wife and said you need to go to the bank for me. She went in and asked for rolls. They asked her if her husbands name was brandon? SHe said no, they said he keeps coming in and asking. The had $13 left and they were mixed year clad. Looking at the rolls it was obvious it was an old timers roll collection that came from circulation and the kids took to the bank and dang you Brandon you probably got the 90%'s. I'm still trying to be happy but man what could have been?

    Glad you enjoyed that! :)
Here's a bit more info on the "1 in Neck" on PCGS from Ron Guth.

I have always enjoyed coin roll hunting 2020 was a rough year for that I did manage to find some silver and W quarters, most banks would only give out a few rolls if any. You have to be persistent and never give up.
I do want to share my most recent find and the first of 2021.
    1957 Franklin half proof
    1958 Franklin half proof
    1964 Kennedy half
    1966 Kennedy half

    .....proof Franklin halves.....

    Happy Hunting!

Just purchased (about 2 weeks ago) 4 boxes of 1/2 dollars from my bank, had to wait for delivery to bank but so far it has been worth while. 1/2 way through one box and have found 13 40% and one beat all to hell 64. NOTE TO ALL you might want to change your bank if they do not order for you. THEY can get them but do not want to bother with them.
Will keep you posted, hope the rest are fruitful.

image.jpg Got a box of quarters from my bank. 3 w”s and a 1982 S proof. My last 3 boxes have all had 3 W’s all mixed. This is the first San Antonio I have actually found! I have some I traded for, but SA and RONR are the 2 I have never found myself.

Only found the 1964 half that I posted earlier in the box of halves. I would of thought that there would be more because the 1964 was an ender. Oh well, on to the next box.

Finished 2 boxes of quarters. They were mixed with probably ~75% Tall Grass Prairie.
Ended up with 22xTGP "W"s and a 1996S Impaired Proof.

That takes me up to 54 TGP "W"s in the last 2 weeks. I've sent quite a few of them to new homes though haha.
