Yes, I got the same message. But like you I don't sell much on eBay, so I'll stop now. I don't think that it effect buying.
Come on, be fair to eBay. If they don't make enough money then they won't be able to hire people to harass and cyberstalk their critics. Sending porn and cockroaches to their critics isn't free.
Good to know because that's how I currently do it. I sell bulk items like 20 or 100 mixed date doubled dies or the same in die clashes. I'll see how this situation progresses.
The managed payments program is still an option. It is not required to sell coins or bullion on eBay. It might even help if you are selling very expensive items to encourage buyers to acquire nicer coins than they can currently afford. I've sold other items besides coins on eBay and am familiar with additional things to note in listings. So, this is not a problem. EBay has been very responsive for the most part to suggestions I've made. They told me about the Custom label (SKU) to help sellers track listings when they re-list items. When I list an item for the first time, I copy the listing number and paste it into the SKU field. Then I never have to change the listing number on my coin flips. In May last year I suggested they give sellers who don't subscribe to a store extra listings during the pandemic, which they've done, giving us 200 additional free listings. They provide protections for buyers and sellers which offers a level of safety, so I'll keep using them until something better is available. I do get frustrated when their tech teams decide to "improve" menus and presentations as it takes time to re-learn. I generally resort to the "classic view".
Managed Payments is no longer an option, but required. They are switching everyone over and it will be completed by the end of February. It is mandatory. Effective March 1st, if you are not enrolled in Managed Payments you will not be able to list any items for sale. I highly doubt that eBay made any changes just because you suggested them. They paid me to do a one-on-one discussion of their services and they didn't take any of my common sense, would have actually helped sellers and made eBay more money recommendations.
That's a shame. I guess they'll be hitting me up to register for Managed Payments, then. I'd love to know the details of the arrangement. How did they talk Ayden into dealing with coins and bullion? I wonder if they're still letting sellers in Vehicles or Adult Materials or Tickets stay opted out?
Maybe this will help, directly copied from my email: Starting January 20, 2021, sellers who have listings in the Coins & Paper Money category will be required to update item specifics in the Year and Denomination fields. If the required item specifics are not updated, the ability to create new listings, or relist or revise current listings, will be interrupted, and listings will not successfully publish. Year and Denomination item specifics fields are already part of the listing process and are currently “recommended,” but will now be “required” effective January 20. The new item specifics requirements improve searchability for buyers and improve listing organization within the category. Learn more about item specifics. Sellers in the Coins & Paper Money and Bullion categories will be enabled for managed payments Starting January 13, 2021, sellers in the Coins & Paper Money categories, including Bullion, will be notified to register or will be activated for managed payments if you’ve already pre-registered. Sellers that are already activated on managed payments may create listings in these categories beginning January 25. Learn more about managed payments.
Ebay is a great place, in my opinion, if you want to purchase common junk at twice what's it's worth. The "stuff" that I might like requires way too much of my time to wade through the dreck. Time is way too precious for useless searching. Like "scotish money" I quit using Ebay in the way back machine. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
My opinion and experience has been different to the extent if you're interested in just pure value, you have to know what you're looking for, ie Cherry Picking.
Meh. This came in a few days ago; it's common junk, sure enough, but $90 worth of silver for $75. If everyone thought searching was a waste of time, rather than entertainment in itself, there wouldn't be a very big market for metal detectors.
I just cherry picked technically the 4th known example (meaning the # graded across all tpgs) Paid $8 delivered. The first known graded example I picked for $5, that one sold for $4,500. I also recently purchased the 3rd known graded example off EBay for $300, and expect the seller used the PCGS price guide. I’m now however back to collecting so I’m no longer selling.
Does Ebay ask for the same personal info that PayPal does like SSN? I wonder if they will have the same IRS reporting guidelines as PayPal which are $20k or 200 transactions I believe.
There always seems to be a big contingent of collectors on this site who seem to view not using eBay as some badge of honor or, I don't know, some kind of middle finger to someone. I'm not sure why there's so much contempt for a place where you can get millions of different coins pretty easily. Maybe all the U.S. collectors find that it's not worth their time, but for us world coin collectors it's the best and often the only place to find a lot of coins, and provides a much better market if you're selling than the local coin shop who tends to think all non-silver foreign coins are for the kids to play with.
What are all of the service reps in the Philippines and India going to do now, go work for Nigerian Princes?
Even the US section is good. Granted eBay in general took a hit over the last 2 months in terms of offerings as people got switched over and coins couldn't be used but it's still significantly better than any shop would be. Granted it's not a great place for the collectors that think 4 figure coins are cheap or only do 4 figure and up coins but for everyone else you just aren't going to beat the selection
I get the feeling it has a lot to do with taxes and eBay appeasing the government, making it easier track and more accessible to audit. Maybe keep tabs on social security recipients too, God forbid they earn $20 here and there and don't report it. Uncle Sam and his 50 nephews wanna make sure they're in control and getting their cut. SMH. Where is everyone else buying and selling now? Think I'll be making a switch. I like my freedom and privacy, already cut out Facebook and Twitter guess eBay's going now too!
