I guess most if you already know it, but the 2005 mint set went on sale ta\oday. The web site actually worked most of the day, and the mint set aren't backordered yet... (Unlike the clad proof sets that are now out of stock scheduled for delivery 6/15)
It is interestiong that the listing on the mint website doesn't mention anything about a satin finish. Was it all just a hoax?
I just ordered some and they didn't say anything about the satin finish either. So is that actually real or are they going to come out with a different set?
Satin finish on uncirculated Mint sets... According to this thread on another coin forum, the satin finish is, indeed, real. A couple people picked up the Mint sets yesterday in DC at the Mint's over-the-counter sales locations. It should be an interesting set to see.... Hope that helps. - Andrew
After reading the first post on this thread i went on the mints site and ordered my mint set. Since the shipping cost is about a 5$ standard rate i also ordered a roll of P mint Sacs and the silver statehood quarters. All three items were listed in stock and ready for shipping. Has anyone noticed that the 04 mint set has jumped to about 70$?
Now the mint set is backordered until 6/17. I'm surprised it took that long before it got backordered...
Why do they need to put it on backorder for? Either they have it or they don't. Why even put it up for sale if its not available to ship for weeks? Doesn't make any sense.
FWIW, my sister dropped by the Denver Mint on Tuesday to pick some mint sets up for me and they weren't in stock yet. She was told they'd be available next week.
Received my shipping confirm yesterday It was in the email early AM. Hi everyone ( newie here ). Maybe I'm at the top on the mint's subscriber list, really don't know. A question: In reference to the satin finish, is this the finish that was put on the unc John Marshall dollars ? When I first saw them, I thought it might be a matte finish. No shine like the past issues. Also, if this satin finish is only released in the unc sets by the mint, seems like the shopping channels, etc. will be in a rush to put their own sets together of the regular unc coins... Just my thoughts... I'm glad I found these forums. I've collected coins most of my life and will continue.
email confirmed shipment last Fri. 6/3. Looks like the Mint shipped earlier than the posted shipping date. Now that's a 1st!!!
After reading this thread, I went on and ordered the mint set AND the proof set. It is back ordered though.
I just got my confirmation e-mail this morning. I see a number of sets showing up on eBay for much more than the mint is offering them for.
