Okay, so today i found a quarter from 1978. as i looked at it, i noticed there is no Mint Mark. From what i know, these coins should be minted. I've looked very closely and there is no sign of scratching where the mark should be. Is this rare?

    Jack,

More than likely you have a normal quarter minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Philadelphia did not use mintmarks in 1978.

If you don't have a Red Book (aka A Guide Book of United States Coins) you should get one.

My 2010 edition (page 19) says:

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

You can get the Red Book from the publisher, Whitman.

    https://www.whitman.com/store/Inventory/Browse/Whitman-Books

It is published annually, but you don't really need to buy one every year if you don't want to. Please be aware that the price guides are not very accurate, but the information is invaluable.

What Chris said, but also Amazon and Barnes and Noble Stores if you want to look at it before buying. Your library may even have some older editions. The best $10 you'll spend on the hobby

Hi there everyone, just found y’all. I have so many finds and questions. I’m fairly new at this, needed more ways to spend time these days and you seemed like a great group of folks. If it’s ok, I will shoot you a couple questions and pictures if that is ok.

Hi @TexasHandfull welcome to CT. You have posted on an old thread. For the best attention to any questions you may have please create your own thread in it;s appropriate sub-forum. Always include clear in-focus photos and any close ups of certain areas you want opinions on. Crop the images to remove unwanted background and when uploaded to your post click the FULL SIZE button for each image, this allows members to enlarge them and, hopefully, see what it is you are referring to.

welcome to CT. yea if it didn't come with a mint mark like Hobo said and quoted from his red book
"Coins struck at Philadelphia before 1979 (except 1942-1945 five-cent pieces) do not have mintmarks"
good luck and try next time to attach pictures
